On Friday May 20, 2022, PV Youth Wrestling continued its off-season coaches' clinic series with Derek Gulotta.
Derek is currently the Head Assistant Coach at Pottsgrove and is also running off season practices at Route 100 Wrestling (Instagram, Facebook). Derek is a graduate of Owen J Roberts Class of 2015 where he amassed an impressive record of 147-36 including being a 4-time state placer, a 2-time state semifinalist. After high school he went on to wrestle at Lock Haven University before finishing his college career with Ursinus College.
Gulotta takes pride in providing young wrestlers with the opportunity to learn and grow in the sport of wrestling. Derek uniquely breaks down the moves into the basics helping the wrestlers learn their strengths and weaknesses so they can adjust and improve their overall abilities.
“Derek seemed to have a real connection with the young athletes. He not only made the clinic educational, but he also made it fun. I learned some new techniques even as a coach. I can see why the wrestlers like him and how he is a really good coach.” said John Chioffe, one of the assistant coaches at PV Youth Wrestling.
Head coach at PV Youth Wrestling, Buddy Grater said “These coaches’ clinics are extremely valuable to the wrestlers. It gives them the opportunity to learn from some of the best wrestlers/coaches with a wide range of experiences. The young athletes not only get to hear stories from the instructors of what they did to become successful, but they also get extra time to practice during the off season. One of the biggest benefits for me is we get more time together to grow as a team.”
